Merete, born in Denmark with a background in contemporary art history (holding a Masters), is an interdisciplinary visual artist and doctoral candidate at the Queensland College of Art and Design, Meanjin (Brisbane). Her focus lies in exploring how ecological breakdown reshapes our understanding of the world and our role in it. Merete's research looks at the intersection between sculpture, installation, sound, video, ecology, and art history, aiming to create a meaningful connection between an audience and the more-than-human world. Her installation practice utilises the theoretical essence of vital materialism and Actor Network Theory (ANT), and her work employs a light-hearted, non-didactic, and non-confrontational visual language. Merete emphasises that the non-human world deserves the same agency as humans, advocating for its voice to be heard and respected.
